Licensing in New South Wales

Queanbeyan sits inside the Canberra orbit, so workers often draw on ACT demand while living or working on the NSW side of the border. That cross-border setting makes state guidance especially important. ACT licensing rules apply to ACT-side work, while NSW licensing settings still apply for work based on the NSW side. You don't need to visit a campus. Evidence gathering is fully remote.

Licensing is set at state level. For the full picture, see RPL in New South Wales.

Check the rules for your trade on our New South Wales trade licence page.

How long does RPL take?

It depends on a few things. What you influence: how quickly you gather and submit your evidence, and how quickly you respond to requests. What RPL it controls: preparing a complete, well-organised portfolio for the RTO and following up for you. What the RTO controls: its assessment workload, scheduling and issuing the qualification.

As an indication, most of our candidates who submit a complete evidence portfolio receive their outcome within 4–6 weeks of submission to the RTO. This is based on past experience, not a guarantee of your timeline.

Does RPL it issue licences?

No. RPL it Australia doesn’t assess or issue licences. The delivering RTO assesses your evidence and issues the qualification, and the New South Wales regulator decides any licence outcome.
