University Credit Pathways.
Turn Your Experience Into Credit.

You've spent years leading teams, managing projects, solving problems that no textbook anticipated. That expertise is real — and it shouldn't be invisible when you walk into a university admissions office.

Recognition, not repetition. That's the principle.

RPL can turn your career experience into a nationally recognised VET qualification. And that qualification can become the foundation for a university degree.

Important: RPL It Australia guides you through the RPL process to help you achieve a VET qualification. University admission, credit decisions, and degree completion are managed entirely by the university — not by RPL It or our partner RTOs.

How University Pathways Work

A two-stage journey. We walk alongside you through Stage 1.

Stage 1 — RPL It guides you

Achieve a VET Qualification Through RPL

If you have substantial management or leadership experience, you may be eligible for a VET qualification through RPL. Your skills speak. We help them be heard.

1

Skills review

An honest conversation about your experience, goals, and whether RPL is suitable for you

2

Evidence gathering

Compile evidence of your skills and experience, guided step by step

3

RTO assessment

Your portfolio is submitted to the delivering RTO for formal assessment

4

Your outcome

If competent, the RTO issues your nationally recognised qualification

The assessment judgement is made by the RTO's qualified assessor — not by RPL It.

Stage 2 — Between you and the university

Apply for University Credit

Once you hold your VET qualification, apply to a university of your choice and request advanced standing — credit for what you've already demonstrated.

RPL It does not control and cannot guarantee:

  • • Whether a university will admit you
  • • How much credit or advanced standing they will grant
  • • The cost, duration, or delivery of the university programme
  • • Whether you will complete the degree

We can help you understand how the pathway works. But the university makes all admission and credit decisions independently.

What Credit Might Be Available?

The AQF provides a framework for credit recognition. As a general guide:

Your VET QualificationIndicative CreditTowards
Diploma (AQF Level 5)Up to ~33% (approx. 1 year)Relevant bachelor's degree
Advanced Diploma (AQF Level 6)Up to ~50% (approx. 1.5 years)Relevant bachelor's degree
Graduate Certificate (AQF Level 8)Up to ~33%Relevant master's degree
Graduate Diploma (AQF Level 8)Up to ~50%Relevant master's degree

What these numbers mean — and what they don't

These are indicative maximums, not guaranteed outcomes. The actual credit depends on:

  • The specific university and programme — each has its own credit policy
  • The relevance of your VET qualification to the degree
  • The university's assessment of your qualification's content and learning outcomes
  • Programme-specific requirements that may restrict advanced standing

We strongly recommend checking directly with your preferred university before relying on specific credit amounts.

The MBA Pathway

You've always had the experience. The MBA has always felt like the next step. But the cost, the time, the thought of sitting through content you already live every day — it's kept it on the “someday” list.

Recognition of Prior Learning can change that equation.

1

Achieve a Graduate Diploma through RPL

If you have significant management experience, you may be eligible for a Graduate Diploma of Strategic Leadership (BSB80320) or Graduate Diploma of Management (BSB80120). Your experience becomes the evidence.

2

Apply to a university MBA programme

With your Graduate Diploma, apply for admission and request advanced standing based on units you've already completed.

3

Complete the remaining units

If the university grants credit, you complete only the remaining portion — building on what you've demonstrated, not repeating it.

What to expect — honestly

A Graduate Diploma may qualify for up to 50% credit towards a relevant MBA — but this depends entirely on the university

Some universities may grant less credit, or require specific core units regardless

MBA programmes have their own entry requirements separate from RPL eligibility

The RPL qualification is the first step. The MBA requires further university study

There is no shortcut to a master's degree — but there can be a smarter starting point.

This pathway may suit you if:

  • Several years of management/leadership experience
  • Considering an MBA but want to reduce time and cost
  • Understand RPL is the foundation, not the finish line

Before You Start: Check With the University

If university study is your primary goal, contact your preferred university beforestarting the RPL process. Confirm whether they accept your target VET qualification, how much credit they're likely to grant, their entry requirements, and current fees.

This conversation takes five minutes and ensures you're building on solid ground. Your RPL It consultant can help you prepare for it.

What We Don't Promise

Experience can be evidence. But we respect the process that determines whether it meets the standard.

RPL It does not and cannot guarantee:

  • • That you will achieve a VET qualification through RPL
  • • That any university will admit you or grant credit
  • • That you will complete a university degree
  • • Any specific cost, time, or effort savings

Credit percentages on this page are indicative, based on the AQF framework — not promised outcomes.

Your Work Deserves to Be Counted

A university pathway starts with the right VET qualification. And the right qualification starts with understanding your experience.
