What Is Recognition of Prior Learning?

Recognition of Prior Learning is a formal assessment process that evaluates skills, knowledge, and experience you have gained through your career against the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification.

You gather relevant workplace evidence and a qualified assessor from the delivering Registered Training Organisation evaluates that evidence. If the assessor determines every competency requirement is met, the RTO issues the qualification.

Is this qualification currently available through RPL it?+
We are currently in the exploratory phase for this qualification and are working to establish partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) who specialise in health. Registering your interest ensures you are notified the moment a pathway becomes available.
Why should I register my interest now?+
Registering your interest allows us to keep you informed of our progress. It also helps us demonstrate demand to our RTO partners, which can accelerate the availability of the recognition process for health workers.
Is RPL the same as completing a standard course?+
Recognition of Prior Learning is a different form of evidence. Rather than starting over with new learning, the process assesses the expertise you have already gained on the job against the same national standards used in traditional study.
How do I prove my 120 hours of clinical placement?+
If you are currently employed in an allied health setting, your existing work hours may be used as evidence. The RTO's assessor will review your employment records to determine if they meet the clinical placement requirements defined in the training package.
What happens if I have experience in only one specific health area?+
While this qualification covers general allied health assistance, your deep experience in a specific field like physiotherapy or speech pathology is highly relevant. We help you map that specific expertise against the broader core competencies of the qualification.
Will I need to undergo a practical assessment?+
The RTO's assessor may request a workplace observation or a practical demonstration to verify your competency. This is a standard part of a rigorous assessment process to ensure your skills meet the national health standards.
What does registering my interest mean?+
Registering your interest means you'd like to be notified when this qualification becomes available through RPL. There's no commitment. We'll contact you when an RTO partnership is confirmed for this qualification.
Why isn't this qualification available yet?+
RPL It works with partner RTOs to deliver qualifications. We're currently exploring RTO partnerships for this qualification. Registering your interest helps us prioritise which qualifications to focus on next.
What happens after I register my interest?+
You'll receive a confirmation, and we'll keep your details on file. When a partner RTO is confirmed for this qualification, we'll contact you with the next steps, including how to start your free skills review.
Can I still do a free skills review for this qualification?+
Yes. A free skills review helps you understand whether your experience aligns with the qualification requirements, regardless of whether an RTO partner is currently available. It's a useful first step while you wait.
