Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

Is this qualification currently available via RPL through your service?
We are currently in the process of establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that specialise in this qualification. This ensures the RPL process is handled by assessors who respect the cultural and clinical depth of your work.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering your interest allows us to notify you as soon as an RTO partner is ready to accept applications. It also helps us demonstrate the demand for fair recognition pathways within the Aboriginal health sector.
Is RPL the same as completing a standard health course?
RPL focuses on the recognition of the skills you have already developed on the job. While the assessment standards are the same as any other pathway, RPL values your experience as evidence, rather than requiring you to repeat training for things you already know.
Does my experience in remote communities count toward this qualification?
Yes. This qualification specifically reflects the roles of health workers in diverse settings, including urban, rural, and remote communities. Your ability to adapt care to these environments is a key component of your expertise.
What happens if I have gaps in my clinical evidence?
If the RTO's assessor identifies areas where your evidence doesn't fully meet the national standards, we will guide you toward gap training. This is targeted learning designed to build on your existing foundation without starting from scratch.
