Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

When will RPL for the Certificate IV in Sport Development be available?
We are currently in the discovery phase, establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that specialise in sport and recreation. We recommend registering your interest to be notified immediately once a formal assessment pathway is available.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering your interest allows us to gauge demand for this qualification and prioritise it within our partnership network. It also ensures you are the first to receive updates regarding evidence requirements and RTO availability.
Is RPL the same as studying for the qualification?
No. Recognition of Prior Learning is an assessment-only pathway that recognises the skills you have already developed through your career in the sports industry. It is a process of demonstrating competency through evidence rather than learning new material.
I work in a regional community club; does my experience count?
Yes. Experience in community-based sport organisations, regional clubs, or school sporting bodies is highly relevant, as these roles often require broad expertise in stakeholder management and program coordination.
What if my evidence doesn't cover every unit of the qualification?
If the RTO's assessor identifies specific areas where your evidence is insufficient, they will provide a pathway for gap training. This allows you to build on your existing foundation without repeating the areas where you are already competent.
