What Is Recognition of Prior Learning?

Recognition of Prior Learning is a formal assessment process that evaluates skills, knowledge, and experience you have gained through your career against the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification.

You gather relevant workplace evidence and a qualified assessor from the delivering Registered Training Organisation evaluates that evidence. If the assessor determines every competency requirement is met, the RTO issues the qualification.

Is RPL currently available for the Certificate IV in Glass and Glazing?+
We are currently in the process of establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) for this specific qualification. While not immediately available for enrolment, registering your interest ensures you are the first to know when the pathway opens.
Why should I register my interest now?+
Registering your interest helps us gauge industry demand and prioritise the onboarding of this qualification. It also allows us to provide you with preliminary guidance on the evidence you may need to gather for a future application.
Is RPL the same as completing a training course?+
No. While the resulting qualification is identical, RPL focuses on the assessment of skills you already possess. Rather than learning new content, you are provided with a guide to help you demonstrate your existing competence to a qualified assessor.
What level of experience is expected for this qualification?+
This qualification is designed for those already working at a leadership or specialist level. Most candidates have either completed a Certificate III in Glass and Glazing or have equivalent years of experience in production, estimating, or site supervision.
Will I need to attend a campus for assessment?+
The RPL process is designed to be completed primarily through the submission of a digital evidence portfolio. However, the RTO's assessor may require a conversation or a workplace observation to verify your skills and knowledge.
What happens if there are gaps in my evidence?+
If an assessor identifies areas where your evidence does not fully meet the national standard, the RTO will provide targeted gap training. This allows you to build on your foundation rather than starting the qualification from scratch.
What does registering my interest mean?+
Registering your interest means you'd like to be notified when this qualification becomes available through RPL. There's no commitment. We'll contact you when an RTO partnership is confirmed for this qualification.
Why isn't this qualification available yet?+
RPL It works with partner RTOs to deliver qualifications. We're currently exploring RTO partnerships for this qualification. Registering your interest helps us prioritise which qualifications to focus on next.
What happens after I register my interest?+
You'll receive a confirmation, and we'll keep your details on file. When a partner RTO is confirmed for this qualification, we'll contact you with the next steps, including how to start your free skills review.
Can I still do a free skills review for this qualification?+
Yes. A free skills review helps you understand whether your experience aligns with the qualification requirements, regardless of whether an RTO partner is currently available. It's a useful first step while you wait.
