What Is Recognition of Prior Learning?

Recognition of Prior Learning is a formal assessment process that evaluates skills, knowledge, and experience you have gained through your career against the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification.

You gather relevant workplace evidence and a qualified assessor from the delivering Registered Training Organisation evaluates that evidence. If the assessor determines every competency requirement is met, the RTO issues the qualification.

When will RPL for this qualification be available?+
We are currently in the process of establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that specialise in education support. By registering your interest, you will be the first to know when the pathway is open for enrolment.
Why should I register my interest now?+
Registering allows us to keep you informed of the progress and ensures we can provide you with a free skills review as soon as our RTO partners are ready to begin assessments. It is the best way to prepare for the recognition process.
Is RPL the same as studying the course?+
No. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment-only pathway that recognises the skills you have already developed on the job. It treats your experience as evidence, whereas traditional study is designed to teach you new skills.
Does my classroom experience count toward the 100-hour requirement?+
Yes. The qualification requires at least 100 hours of work in an Australian classroom environment. If you have already completed these hours as a staff member or volunteer, this experience can be used as evidence for your assessment.
Who conducts the final assessment?+
While RPL it Australia guides you through the evidence-gathering process, the formal assessment is conducted by a qualified assessor from one of our partner Registered Training Organisations (RTOs).
What happens if I have gaps in my evidence?+
If the RTO assessor identifies areas where your evidence does not fully meet the national standard, they will provide targeted gap training. This allows you to build on your existing foundation without needing to repeat the entire qualification.
What does registering my interest mean?+
Registering your interest means you'd like to be notified when this qualification becomes available through RPL. There's no commitment. We'll contact you when an RTO partnership is confirmed for this qualification.
Why isn't this qualification available yet?+
RPL It works with partner RTOs to deliver qualifications. We're currently exploring RTO partnerships for this qualification. Registering your interest helps us prioritise which qualifications to focus on next.
What happens after I register my interest?+
You'll receive a confirmation, and we'll keep your details on file. When a partner RTO is confirmed for this qualification, we'll contact you with the next steps, including how to start your free skills review.
Can I still do a free skills review for this qualification?+
Yes. A free skills review helps you understand whether your experience aligns with the qualification requirements, regardless of whether an RTO partner is currently available. It's a useful first step while you wait.
