What Is Recognition of Prior Learning?
Recognition of Prior Learning is a formal assessment process that evaluates skills, knowledge, and experience you have gained through your career against the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification.
You gather relevant workplace evidence and a qualified assessor from the delivering Registered Training Organisation evaluates that evidence. If the assessor determines every competency requirement is met, the RTO issues the qualification.

We are currently in the process of identifying and vetting Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that meet our standards for this qualification. By registering your interest, you will be notified the moment a pathway becomes available.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering allows us to gauge the demand for this specific qualification and helps us prioritise our RTO partnership efforts. It also ensures you are at the front of the queue for a free skills review once we launch.
Is the RPL process the same as studying?
No. While traditional study involves learning new material, RPL is an assessment of the skills you have already mastered. It treats your years of production experience as evidence of your competency.
What kind of experience is relevant for this qualification?
Experience in lighting, sound, staging, scenery construction, or general production assistance is highly relevant. Whether you have worked in theatres, film sets, or remote broadcasting, your technical skills can be documented.
Will I need to show I can use specific equipment?
Yes, as part of the evidence portfolio, the assessor will look for evidence that you can safely and effectively operate technical equipment relevant to your specific role in the industry.
What if I have gaps in my technical evidence?
If the RTO's assessor identifies areas where your evidence is not sufficient, they will provide targeted gap training. This allows you to build on your existing foundation without starting from scratch.
