Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

When will RPL for this qualification be available?
We are currently in the process of identifying and establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations that meet our standards for this creative arts qualification. By registering your interest, you will be the first to know when the pathway is active.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering allows us to gauge the demand for recognition in the screen and media sector. It ensures you receive direct updates on RTO availability and helps us prioritise the launch of this specific qualification based on candidate interest.
Is RPL the same as completing a media course?
RPL is a formal assessment of the skills you have already acquired through work. It leads to the same nationally recognised qualification as a traditional course, but it values your experience as evidence rather than requiring you to repeat learning.
Can my experience in community radio be used as evidence?
Yes. Lived expertise in community broadcasting, including presenting or producing content, is highly relevant. We help you document this experience to demonstrate competency against the required units.
What happens if my evidence doesn't cover all the units?
If the RTO's assessor identifies areas where your evidence is insufficient, they will provide targeted gap training. This allows you to build on your existing foundation to meet the full requirements of the qualification at no extra cost.
Do I need to be currently working in a studio to apply?
Not necessarily. Recognition is based on your total work history. If you have significant past experience in screen, media, or technical production, that expertise can be presented for assessment.
