Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

What Kind of Experience Counts?

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

When will RPL for this qualification be available?
We are currently in the process of identifying and vetting Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) with this qualification on their scope. We want to ensure our partners meet the high standards required for rigorous spatial science assessment.
Why should I register my interest?
Registering ensures you are notified the moment a pathway is established. It also helps us demonstrate demand to our RTO partners, potentially accelerating the availability of the RPL process for the spatial services sector.
Is RPL the same as completing the study?
The resulting qualification is exactly the same. The difference is the pathway: while a student learns the skills, an RPL candidate demonstrates they already possess them through years of practical, on-the-job experience.
What kind of geospatial software experience is relevant?
Assessors will look for evidence of your proficiency in specialised software used for spatial data manipulation, updating datasets, and creating 3D digital models.
Does my experience in mining or civil construction count?
Yes. Spatial information skills are applied across many industries. Whether you have worked in town planning, health, or defence, your experience in managing spatial data is what matters for this qualification.
