Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

What Kind of Experience Counts?

If RPL becomes available for this qualification, the types of experience and evidence that would typically be relevant include:

📋

Work History & Roles

⚙️

Control Systems

  • PLC discrete control programs and verification logs
  • PID loop adjustment and tuning records
  • HMI and industrial network configurations
📏

Measurement & Fault Finding

  • Calibration reports for flow, pressure, and temperature instruments
  • Fault-finding reports for process control elements
  • Verification of instrumentation functionality
📝

Technical Documentation

  • Instrumentation drawings and specifications
  • Detailed energy sector reports

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

Is this qualification currently available via RPL?
We are currently in the process of identifying Registered Training Organisations that meet our standards for rigorous and fair assessment. Registering your interest ensures you are the first to know when the pathway is active.
Why should I register my interest?
Registration allows us to notify you as soon as an assessment pathway is established. It also helps us understand the demand for this qualification, allowing us to better guide our RTO partners.
Is RPL the same as completing a training course?
No. Recognition of Prior Learning is a process that assesses the expertise you have already acquired through years of work. It is about demonstrating your existing competency rather than learning new skills from scratch.
What are the entry requirements for this Diploma?
To be eligible for assessment, you must hold a Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician or a current Unrestricted Electrician's Licence issued in an Australian state or territory.
What kind of experience is required for this qualification?
Assessors will look for experience in programming controllers, setting up advanced PID control loops, and solving problems in diverse measurement systems such as density, flow, and pressure.
How does the evidence collection process work?
Once the pathway is open, your consultant will guide you in compiling a portfolio of evidence, such as PLC programs and maintenance logs, that demonstrates your skills against the national standards.
