Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

Is this qualification currently available via RPL?
We are currently in the process of identifying and partnering with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) who can deliver this specific qualification. At this stage, we are gathering interest from experienced electricians to determine the demand for a recognition pathway.
Why should I register my interest?
Registering your interest ensures you are the first to be notified once a suitable RTO partner is secured. It also helps us demonstrate to our partners that there is a community of skilled professionals ready to have their advanced expertise assessed.
Is RPL the same as completing a training course?
Recognition of Prior Learning is an assessment-only pathway. It is designed for those who already possess the skills and knowledge required by the qualification. Instead of learning new material, you are providing evidence to an assessor that you have already mastered the competencies through your work experience.
Are there specific entry requirements for this qualification?
Yes. To be eligible for this qualification, you must already hold a Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician or a current Unrestricted Electrician's Licence issued in an Australian state or territory.
What kind of evidence will the RTO eventually require?
While requirements vary by RTO, you will typically need to provide documentation such as work logs, commissioning reports, and evidence of your involvement in fault-finding and systems maintenance. Your trade licence serves as the foundational proof of your core competency.
