Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

What Kind of Experience Counts?

If RPL becomes available for this qualification, the types of experience and evidence that would typically be relevant include:

🚁

Work History & Roles

  • Certified pilot logbooks detailing flight hours and conditions
  • Employment contracts or letters of service from aviation operators
  • Detailed resume highlighting commercial or military flight roles
🗺️

Flight Operations & Navigation

  • Flight plans and manifests for passenger or cargo missions
  • Operational logs for controlled and Class G airspace transit
  • Records of solo navigation and circuit area operations
🛡️

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

Is this qualification currently available through RPL It?
We are currently in the process of establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that can deliver this specific aviation qualification. By registering your interest, you will be the first to know when a formal RPL pathway is active.
Why should I register my interest?
Aviation qualifications require specific RTO scopes and assessor expertise. Registering helps us prioritise which partnerships to finalise first and ensures you receive direct support the moment the pathway opens.
Is an RPL qualification the same as one from full-time study?
Yes. A qualification achieved through Recognition of Prior Learning is issued by a Registered Training Organisation and carries the same national weight as one earned through traditional study. The difference is that it recognises the expertise you have already acquired in the cockpit.
Does this qualification grant me a CASA Commercial Pilot Licence?
No. While the Diploma covers the vocational competencies, CASA remains the sole authority for issuing flight crew licences. You will still need to meet CASA's medical, flight test, and theory examination requirements as dictated by Part 61 regulations.
Can my military flight experience be used as evidence?
Absolutely. Lived expertise gained in Defence aviation is highly valued. Your military flight logs, training records, and operational experience are excellent forms of evidence to demonstrate competency against the national standards.
How do I provide evidence of my flight hours?
Your pilot logbook is the primary record of your experience. We will guide you in presenting these logs, alongside other operational documents, to ensure they clearly demonstrate your competency in both normal and emergency flight conditions.
