Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

When will RPL for this qualification be available?
We are currently in the process of establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that specialise in mining. By registering your interest, you will be the first to know when a formal recognition pathway is open.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering interest allows us to gauge demand and accelerate the partnership process with RTOs. It also ensures you receive updates on evidence requirements so you can begin preparing your portfolio early.
Is RPL the same as completing a training course?
RPL is an assessment-only pathway that recognises the skills you have already developed on the job. While the qualification issued is identical to one earned through study, the process focuses on proving your existing competency rather than learning new material.
How do I demonstrate gas or ventilation management expertise?
Evidence typically includes statutory records, shift logs, and monitoring reports you have completed as part of your role. The RTO's assessor will look for evidence that you can apply and monitor these management plans in a live underground environment.
What happens if I have experience but no formal paperwork for some units?
If the RTO's assessor identifies gaps in your evidence, they may suggest targeted gap training. This allows you to complete only the specific components you need, rather than repeating the entire qualification.
Who conducts the final assessment?
The formal assessment is conducted by a qualified assessor from one of our partner Registered Training Organisations. Our role at RPL It is to guide you through the preparation of your evidence portfolio to ensure it meets the required standards.
