Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

What Kind of Experience Counts?

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

When will RPL for this qualification be available?
We are currently mapping evidence requirements with our Registered Training Organisation partners to ensure a rigorous and compliant assessment pathway for mining supervisors.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering ensures you are notified the moment a partnership is finalised, allowing you to be among the first to have your experience formally assessed against national standards.
Is RPL for surface extraction the same as studying the course?
Yes. The assessment standards are identical to those used in traditional study. The difference is that you are demonstrating existing competency through evidence rather than learning the skills from scratch.
Do I need to be a current supervisor to apply?
The process is designed for those who can demonstrate they are currently performing, or have recently performed, the supervisory and technical tasks required by the qualification units.
What if I have experience in coal but not metalliferous mining?
The qualification allows for elective units that specialise in different extraction sectors; your evidence will be assessed against the specific industry context of your experience.
How do I prove my experience in risk management?
You can provide evidence such as site-specific risk assessments you have authored, safety systems you have monitored, or compliance reports you have submitted to regulators.
