Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

Is RPL for this Diploma currently available?
We are currently in the process of establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that hold this specific qualification on their scope. At this stage, we are accepting registrations of interest to gauge demand and keep experienced supervisors informed.
Why should I register my interest?
Registering your interest ensures you are the first to be notified once a recognition pathway is established. It also allows us to begin an initial review of your experience so you are well-positioned for the assessment process when it opens.
Is RPL the same as studying the course?
No. While the outcome is the same nationally recognised qualification, RPL assesses the competency you have already developed through years of work. It is a process of recognition for your existing expertise rather than a program of new learning.
What level of experience is required for a Diploma?
A Diploma reflects the role of a supervisor or manager. You should have significant experience in planning, selecting equipment, and applying technical judgement in onshore drilling environments, often with autonomy over your own work and the work of others.
Will I need to complete gap training?
If the RTO's assessor identifies areas where your current evidence does not fully demonstrate competency against the national standard, gap training may be required. This is targeted specifically to the units needed and builds on your existing knowledge.
How is my evidence assessed?
Your evidence portfolio will be reviewed by a qualified assessor from the delivering RTO. They may contact you for a technical interview or request a practical demonstration to verify that your experience meets the required competency standards.
