Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

When will RPL for the Certificate III in Retail be available?
We are currently in the process of establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that meet our standards for this qualification. By registering your interest, you will receive an immediate update once the recognition pathway is open.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering allows us to gauge the demand for this qualification and prioritise it within our partnership network. It also ensures you are the first to be contacted for a free skills review once the assessment process is finalised.
Is RPL the same as completing a retail course?
No. While a course teaches you new skills, RPL recognises the skills you already possess. It is a formal assessment process where a qualified assessor evaluates your evidence to determine if you meet the national standards for the qualification.
What kind of retail experience do I need?
Relevant experience includes working in supermarkets, specialty stores, department stores, or quick-service restaurants. If you have been responsible for sales, stock, or supervising others, your experience is well-positioned for recognition.
Will I need to do any extra training?
If the RTO's assessor identifies specific areas where your evidence does not fully meet the qualification requirements, gap training may be provided. This is targeted learning designed to build on your existing foundation rather than starting from scratch.
How do I demonstrate my skills to an assessor?
The assessment process involves compiling a portfolio of evidence, such as work documents and photos. The assessor may also choose to speak with you directly or observe your skills in the workplace to verify your competency.
