Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

Is RPL for the Certificate IV in Community Pharmacy Dispensary currently available?
We are currently in the research phase for this qualification. This involves identifying Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that meet our standards for quality and student support before we can offer a formal RPL pathway.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering your interest helps us gauge the demand for this specific pharmacy qualification. It also ensures you are the first to be notified once we have established a partnership with a suitable RTO to guide you through the assessment.
Is RPL the same as completing a pharmacy course?
No. While traditional study focuses on teaching you new skills, RPL is a process of recognition. It allows a qualified assessor to evaluate the skills you have already developed on the job to see if they meet the national standard.
What kind of evidence will I need for the dispensing units?
You will likely need to demonstrate your proficiency in using dispensary software, correctly labelling medications, and assisting with prescription intake. This is typically evidenced through third-party reports from a supervising pharmacist.
Do I need to be currently working in a pharmacy to apply?
While current employment is not always a strict requirement, having recent experience in a dispensary environment is essential. This ensures your evidence is current and reflects the latest Pharmacy Board of Australia Guidelines.
Will I need to attend a campus for assessment?
The RPL process is designed to be completed remotely by gathering documentation of your experience. However, an assessor may occasionally request a workplace observation or a professional conversation to verify your technical competency.
