About This Qualification
This qualification applies to persons carrying out marine cook duties on a vessel. This qualification is currently cited as meeting some of the requirements for certification as a Marine Cook by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA).
Important: RPL It Australia is a student support service. All assessment and qualification issuance is conducted by the delivering Registered Training Organisation. RPL It does not deliver training, conduct assessments, or issue qualifications.

What Is Recognition of Prior Learning?
Recognition of Prior Learning is a formal assessment process that evaluates skills, knowledge, and experience you have gained through your career against the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification.
You gather relevant workplace evidence and a qualified assessor from the delivering Registered Training Organisation evaluates that evidence. If the assessor determines every competency requirement is met, the RTO issues the qualification.

We are currently in the process of establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that specialise in maritime cookery. By registering your interest, you will be the first to know when we are ready to facilitate your recognition process.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering interest allows us to gauge demand and accelerate the onboarding of suitable RTO partners. It also ensures you receive early access to a free skills review once the pathway is live.
Is RPL the same as completing a cookery course?
RPL is an assessment-only pathway that recognises the skills you have already developed on the job. It treats your experience as evidence, rather than requiring you to repeat training for tasks you already perform competently.
Does this qualification cover maritime safety requirements?
Yes, the core units include essential maritime safety competencies such as basic firefighting, personal survival techniques, and vessel security procedures as required by the MAR training package.
Will I need to provide evidence of my time at sea?
Yes, as this is a maritime-specific cookery qualification, evidence of your experience in a marine galley environment will be central to your portfolio for the RTO's assessor to review.
