Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

What Kind of Experience Counts?

If RPL becomes available for this qualification, the types of experience and evidence that would typically be relevant include:

🚁

Work History & Roles

  • Comprehensive resume detailing air crew or emergency service roles
  • Official flight logs or mission records verifying operational hours
  • Letters of service from aviation or emergency response agencies
📋

Flight & Equipment Operations

  • Pre-flight and post-flight equipment inspection checklists
  • Records of flight equipment maintenance and readiness checks
  • Documentation of aircraft loading and weight balance planning
🛟

Mission & Rescue Procedures

  • Search and rescue mission reports or tasking logs
  • Evidence of winching, rappelling, or hover-exit operations
  • Records of aquatic recovery or stores dropping activities
🛡️

Safety & Risk Management

  • Fatigue risk management records and incident reports
  • Documentation of human factors management in high-pressure environments
  • Safety briefings and situational awareness assessment records
📡

Communications & Systems

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

Is this qualification currently available through RPL It?
We are currently in the process of establishing RTO partnerships for the AVI30525 Certificate III in Airborne Operations. By registering your interest, you will be the first to know when we are ready to guide you through the evidence collection process.
Why should I register my interest?
Registering ensures you receive priority updates as soon as an assessment pathway is secured. It also allows us to provide you with an early review of your experience to ensure you are well-positioned for the qualification.
Is an RPL qualification the same as one from full-time study?
Yes. A qualification achieved through Recognition of Prior Learning is issued by a Registered Training Organisation and carries the same national weight as one earned through a classroom. It recognises that your learning happened on the job rather than in a desk.
How does this qualification interact with CASA requirements?
This qualification reflects the technical standards for air crew personnel. However, CASA maintains separate authorisation requirements for non-licensed air crew. We recommend checking with CASA to see how this certificate supports your specific operational goals.
What kind of evidence is needed for emergency airborne duties?
Evidence typically includes flight logs, mission tasking records, and documented proof of specific skills like winch operations or search patterns. We will guide you in compiling a portfolio that demonstrates your competence to the assessor.
