Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

What Kind of Experience Counts?

If RPL becomes available for this qualification, the types of experience and evidence that would typically be relevant include:

🛠️

Work History & Roles

  • A comprehensive CV detailing your history in manufacturing or engineering
  • Position descriptions showing Industry 4.0 implementation roles
  • Letters of support from employers or industry peers
💻

System Commissioning

  • Commissioning reports for cyber-physical or automated systems
  • Technical diagrams of networked machine environments
  • Automation sequence logs and system testing results
📊

Data & Cloud Strategy

  • Reports on digital data collection and processing strategies
  • Evidence of managing data within cloud-based engineering systems
  • Strategic plans for site-to-site networking and digitisation
🛡️

Operational Safety

  • WHS/OHS compliance records for manufacturing environments
  • Risk assessments for complex electrical or mechanical circuits
  • Safety meeting minutes and incident management logs

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

Is this qualification currently available for RPL?
We are currently in the process of establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that have the Diploma of Applied Technologies on their scope. By registering your interest, we can notify you as soon as a pathway is available.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering your interest allows us to understand the demand for this specific qualification. It also ensures you are the first to be notified when a recognition pathway opens, allowing us to guide you through the evidence gathering process early.
Is RPL the same as studying for this Diploma?
Recognition of Prior Learning is not a study pathway; it is an assessment of what you already know. While traditional study teaches you new skills, RPL recognises the expertise you have already gained through your work in Industry 4.0 environments.
What kind of experience is relevant for this qualification?
Experience in modern manufacturing digitisation, such as networking machines, cloud-based data management, and the commissioning of cyber-physical systems, is highly relevant for this Diploma.
Will I need to complete any training?
If the RTO's assessor identifies specific areas where your evidence doesn't fully meet the national standard, gap training may be required. This is targeted learning designed to build on your existing foundation rather than making you start from scratch.
