Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

What Kind of Experience Counts?

If RPL becomes available for this qualification, the types of experience and evidence that would typically be relevant include:

📋

Work History & Roles

  • Comprehensive resume highlighting engineering planning roles
  • Detailed position descriptions for supervisory or technical positions
  • Performance reviews or letters of support from industry peers
🏗️

Planning & Scheduling

  • Production schedules and material supply plans
  • Logistics support documentation for engineering projects
  • Equipment utilisation and service coordination records
🔬

Technical Evaluation

  • Manufacturing process evaluation reports
  • Metallurgical test results or alloy development data
  • Mathematical modelling used in engineering environments
🌿

Compliance & Sustainability

  • WHS incident reports and safety audit logs
  • Environmental sustainability work practice documentation
  • Records of compliance with manufacturing standards
🤝

Project Coordination

  • Meeting minutes from multi-disciplinary team briefings
  • Material supply management plans
  • Communications with stakeholders regarding engineering logistics

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

Is the Advanced Diploma of Engineering - Planning currently available?
We are currently in the process of identifying and vetting Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that meet our standards for this specific qualification. We focus on quality over speed to ensure your experience is assessed with the respect it deserves.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering your interest allows us to gauge demand and accelerate our partnership process with relevant RTOs. It also ensures you are the first to be notified as soon as a recognition pathway becomes available for this engineering qualification.
Is RPL the same as completing a standard course?
RPL is a rigorous assessment process that evaluates the skills you have already acquired through work experience against national standards. While the outcome is the same nationally recognised qualification, the pathway respects your prior investment of time in the industry.
What kind of planning experience is required for this qualification?
Assessors typically look for evidence of high-level technical planning, including material supply management, production scheduling, and the evaluation of manufacturing processes in an engineering context.
Will my metallurgical testing experience be considered?
Yes, technical expertise in metallurgy, alloy development, and component testing forms a significant part of the evidence base for the technical units within this Advanced Diploma.
What happens if my evidence doesn't cover all the units?
If an RTO assessor identifies specific gaps in your evidence, they will provide targeted gap training. This is designed to build on your existing foundation rather than requiring you to repeat areas where you are already competent.
