Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

What Kind of Experience Counts?

If RPL becomes available for this qualification, the types of experience and evidence that would typically be relevant include:

📋

Work History & Roles

  • Current resume detailing wind farm experience
  • Position descriptions from energy sector employers
  • Trade certificates or prior electrical qualifications
⚙️

Technical Evidence

  • Fault diagnosis reports for turbine control systems
  • Maintenance logs for mechanical and electrical systems
  • Records of SCADA system monitoring and operation
🛡️

Safety & Compliance

  • Isolation procedures and permit-to-work records
  • Work at heights and vertical rescue certifications
  • Hazard identification and safety meeting minutes
🤝

Professional Validation

  • References from wind farm site supervisors
  • Third-party verification of technical competency
  • Photos or videos of on-site maintenance tasks

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

Is this qualification currently available for RPL?
We are currently in the process of establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that can deliver this specific qualification via RPL. It is not currently available for immediate enrolment.
Why should I register my interest?
Registering your interest helps us gauge the demand for wind power generation recognition. It also ensures you are the first to be notified as soon as a suitable RTO partner is secured to conduct the assessment.
Is RPL the same as doing a traditional course?
The assessment standards are identical, and the resulting qualification is the same. The difference lies in the evidence: RPL assesses the expertise you have already gained on the job rather than requiring you to repeat training.
Do I need an electrical licence for this qualification?
Specific units relating to diagnosing and repairing faults in wind turbine electrical systems require an Unrestricted Electrical Licence or an Electrical Fitter Occupational Licence as an entry requirement.
What kind of experience is required for this RPL pathway?
Qualified assessors look for substantial experience in wind farm maintenance, turbine mechanical systems, and the operation of supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems.
How do I demonstrate vertical rescue skills?
Evidence may include current certifications, site-specific training records, and verified logs of participating in height safety and vertical rescue drills on wind farm sites.
