Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

Is this qualification currently available for RPL?
We are currently in the discovery phase for this qualification, vetting Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) to ensure they meet our standards for rigorous and respectful assessment.
Why should I register my interest?
Registering ensures you are the first to know when an RPL pathway is established. It also helps us demonstrate demand to our RTO partners, which can accelerate the availability of the qualification.
Is RPL the same as studying for the qualification?
No. While the resulting qualification is identical, RPL is an assessment process that recognises the skills you already have. It is for those who have already done the work, rather than those who need to learn it.
Do I need experience in both design and technical production?
This qualification covers a broad range of electives. Your evidence may focus more on the technical side of leather production or the creative side of textile design, depending on your specific career history.
What happens if my evidence doesn't cover every unit?
If the RTO's assessor identifies specific areas where your evidence is not yet sufficient, they may offer gap training. This allows you to complete only the specific components you need, rather than starting from scratch.
