Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

When will RPL for this qualification be available?
We are currently in the process of establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that specialise in textile manufacturing. By registering your interest, you will be the first to know when the pathway is open for assessment.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering ensures you are notified immediately once we have a partner RTO ready to assess this qualification. It also helps us demonstrate the demand for this trade to our partners, potentially accelerating the process.
Is RPL the same as completing a training course?
No. While the resulting qualification is the same, RPL is an assessment of the skills you have already developed through your career. It is a process of providing evidence of your existing competence rather than learning from scratch.
What types of textile products are covered in this qualification?
The qualification covers a broad range of manufactured products, including yacht sails, shade sails, PVC and canvas products, awnings, and various synthetic fabric items.
How do I prove my design and drawing skills?
Evidence can include technical drawings you have created for clients, records of using design software, and examples of how you have translated customer specifications into finished textile products.
What happens if there are gaps in my evidence?
If the RTO assessor identifies areas where your evidence is insufficient, they will provide a pathway for gap training. This allows you to complete specific units or tasks to meet the national standard without repeating what you already know.
