About This Qualification

This is a qualification for those engaged in the management of safety within the rail industry in accordance with regulations, rail network standards, rules and procedures. This qualification requires a broad range of skilled applications within the rail safety environment. It also requires the skills and knowledge to evaluate and analyse current practices, to develop new criteria and procedures, and to provide some leadership and guidance to others in their work. This qualification applies to a technically competent or rail experienced person who, while working under a level of supervision, has responsibility for preventative safety management capacity to exercise discretion and judgement using appropriate rail knowledge to provide technical assistance and safety support to rail operation stakeholders. Job roles This qualification is aligned to the following defined role: rail safety manager. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

The outcome is identical. Whether you achieve the qualification through study or through Recognition of Prior Learning, you receive the same nationally recognised Certificate IV. RPL simply focuses on evidence of what you already know rather than teaching you new content.
