About This Qualification
This is a qualification for those engaged in customs broker job role within international supply chain industries. Successful achievement of this qualification will require the self-directed application of knowledge and skills, with substantial depth in some areas where judgement is required in planning and selecting appropriate equipment, services and techniques for self and others.

What Is Recognition of Prior Learning?
Recognition of Prior Learning is a formal assessment process that evaluates skills, knowledge, and experience you have gained through your career against the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification.
You gather relevant workplace evidence and a qualified assessor from the delivering Registered Training Organisation evaluates that evidence. If the assessor determines every competency requirement is met, the RTO issues the qualification.

The Diploma of Customs Broking is a primary educational requirement for obtaining a customs broker licence from the Australian Border Force (ABF). While this qualification is a necessary step, the ABF also requires applicants to meet specific 'fit and proper person' criteria and other regulatory standards prior to issuing a licence.

We are currently in the process of establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that offer this specific qualification. At this stage, we are accepting registrations of interest from experienced professionals.

Is RPL for this Diploma the same as completing the full course?
Yes, the resulting qualification is identical. The difference lies in the assessment method: RPL recognises your existing expertise through evidence of prior learning, whereas traditional study involves learning the material from the beginning.
Does this qualification guarantee me a customs broker licence?
No. While the Diploma is a mandatory educational component, the Australian Border Force (ABF) is the sole authority for issuing licences. You must also satisfy their specific professional and character requirements.
What kind of experience is most relevant for this RPL pathway?
Assessors will look for substantial experience in complex tariff classification, valuation, biosecurity compliance, and the application of free trade agreements within a commercial or regulatory environment.
Will I need to demonstrate knowledge of biosecurity?
Yes, complying with biosecurity border clearance is a core unit of this qualification. You will need to provide evidence that you can manage quarantine requirements and border clearance fundamentals.
