Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

Is the Certificate IV in Protective Services currently available via RPL?
We are currently in the process of establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that offer this specific qualification. At this stage, we are accepting registrations of interest so we can notify you as soon as the pathway is open for assessment.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering interest ensures you are at the forefront of the intake once we secure an RTO partner. It also allows us to provide you with preliminary guidance on the evidence you may need to gather based on your current experience within police forces.
Is RPL for this qualification the same as completing a training course?
Yes, the qualification issued through Recognition of Prior Learning is identical to one earned through study. It recognises that you have already achieved the required competencies through your work in protective services, rather than requiring you to repeat the learning process.
Does my experience have to be within a police environment?
The POL41225 qualification is specifically designed for protective services within a policing context. While private security experience is valuable, the assessment will focus on how your skills align with police-specific policies, procedures, and environments.
What if I have gaps in my evidence for certain units?
If an assessor identifies areas where your evidence doesn't fully cover the qualification requirements, such as driving policing vehicles, our RTO partners will provide targeted gap training to help you demonstrate competency in those specific areas.
