About This Qualification

This is a qualification for thermal performance assessors and home sustainability assessors.Thermal performance assessors operate under the Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS) to rate the energy efficiency of a home based on its design. They use government approved software and information obtained from residential building plans and drawings to model potential consumption of energy for heating and cooling purposes and assess and certify the thermal performance of homes based on a ten-star rating system.Home sustainability assessors provide advice to homeowners seeking to improve the efficiency, cost to run, sustainability and comfort needs of their household. They conduct on-site assessments of residences and advise on opportunities to improve comfort and to save on energy and water costs, and ways to live more sustainably in a residential environment.

Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

What Kind of Experience Counts?

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

Is this qualification currently available?
We are currently in the process of establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations to offer this specific qualification. We encourage you to register your interest to receive updates on its availability.
Why should I register my interest?
Registering ensures you are the first to know when a recognition pathway is open. It also helps us understand the demand for energy efficiency qualifications, allowing us to prioritise our RTO partnerships accordingly.
Is RPL the same as completing a course?
Recognition of Prior Learning is an assessment-only pathway. It acknowledges the skills you have already developed through your career, rather than requiring you to repeat training for competencies you already possess.
Will I need to demonstrate software proficiency?
Yes, for thermal performance roles, the assessor will likely require evidence of your ability to use NatHERS-approved software to accurately model residential energy consumption.
What happens if my evidence has gaps?
If the RTO assessor identifies areas where your evidence is insufficient, they will provide targeted gap training. This allows you to complete only the specific units or components required to meet the national standard.
