About This Qualification
Workers with this qualification have trade-level skills in upholstery, including skills in dismantling and reassembling furniture, in selecting, cutting, sewing and fitting fabric and leather upholstery material, and in producing loose covers. They have core skills in tool use, measurement, interpretation of work documentation, preparation of cutting lists, communication, teamwork, and safe and environmentally sustainable work practices.

What Is Recognition of Prior Learning?
Recognition of Prior Learning is a formal assessment process that evaluates skills, knowledge, and experience you have gained through your career against the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification.
You gather relevant workplace evidence and a qualified assessor from the delivering Registered Training Organisation evaluates that evidence. If the assessor determines every competency requirement is met, the RTO issues the qualification.

We are currently in the process of establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that offer this specific qualification. While we cannot process applications immediately, we are building the pathway to ensure your experience is properly recognised.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering your interest allows us to notify you the moment a partner RTO is ready to begin assessments. It also helps us demonstrate the demand for this trade qualification, potentially accelerating the launch of the recognition pathway.
Is RPL the same as studying for the certificate?
No. Recognition of Prior Learning is an assessment-only pathway that acknowledges the skills you have already developed on the job. It treats your experience as evidence, rather than requiring you to repeat training for things you already know.
Do I need experience in both fabric and leather?
The qualification covers a range of materials. While having experience in both is beneficial, the RTO's assessor will review your specific evidence portfolio to determine how your expertise aligns with the national standards.
What happens if I have gaps in my evidence?
If the assessor identifies areas where your evidence doesn't fully cover the qualification requirements, you may be offered targeted gap training. This builds on your existing expertise rather than starting from scratch.
