Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

When will RPL for this qualification be available?
We are currently in the process of identifying and vetting Registered Training Organisation (RTO) partners who meet our standards for the SIS30122 qualification. By registering your interest, you will be the first to know when the pathway is open.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering allows us to gauge the demand for specific specialisations like swim teaching or lifeguarding. It also ensures you receive early access to our skills review process once our RTO partnerships are finalised.
Is RPL the same as completing a short course or study?
No. While study involves learning new material, RPL is a rigorous assessment process that recognises the skills you have already mastered through years of work in the sport and recreation industry.
Do I need to choose a specialisation for this qualification?
While specialisations for pool lifeguards or swim teachers are available, they are not mandatory. Your existing experience across general recreation or customer service roles can be used to demonstrate competency.
What if my experience is from a volunteer or community background?
Experience gained in community recreation centres, local councils, or volunteer sporting clubs is highly valued. As long as your work can be documented and verified, it can serve as evidence for assessment.
