About This Qualification
This qualification provides competencies to conduct gas supply industry activities, including installation, maintenance, fault find and repair, operations of distribution and transmission gas pipelines, cylinders and associated equipment. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

What Is Recognition of Prior Learning?
Recognition of Prior Learning is a formal assessment process that evaluates skills, knowledge, and experience you have gained through your career against the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification.
You gather relevant workplace evidence and a qualified assessor from the delivering Registered Training Organisation evaluates that evidence. If the assessor determines every competency requirement is met, the RTO issues the qualification.

Is RPL the same as completing a training course?
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment-only pathway. Instead of attending classes to learn new material, you provide evidence that you already possess the competencies required by the national standard through your existing work experience.
What if I have experience in pipelines but not pressure control?
The RPL process looks at your total experience against the qualification's core and elective units. If the RTO's assessor identifies specific units where your evidence is insufficient, they will provide a pathway to address those gaps.
How much work history do I need for a successful RPL application?
While there is no fixed minimum, most successful candidates have at least three to five years of experience in the gas supply industry. This depth of experience typically provides the range of evidence needed to meet the qualification standards.
