Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

What Kind of Experience Counts?

If RPL becomes available for this qualification, the types of experience and evidence that would typically be relevant include:

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

Is this qualification currently available for RPL?
We are currently in the discovery phase for this qualification. We are vetting Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) to ensure they have the specific ESI scope and expertise required to assess underground distribution competencies fairly and accurately.
Why should I register my interest?
Registering your interest allows us to gauge demand and fast-track partnerships with suitable RTOs. You will be the first to be notified when the pathway opens, giving you a head start on compiling your evidence portfolio.
Is RPL the same as completing a full apprenticeship?
The qualification issued is identical to one earned through an apprenticeship. The difference lies in the pathway: RPL recognises that you have already acquired the skills through years of work, whereas an apprenticeship teaches those skills to someone new to the trade.
What if I don't have experience with high voltage polymeric cables?
The assessment process is designed to identify exactly what you know. If the RTO assessor identifies a gap in your experience, such as specific HV jointing techniques, they will provide targeted gap training to help you meet the national standard.
How do my high-risk work licences fit into the RPL process?
Existing licences for Dogging or Elevating Work Platforms (EWP) are direct evidence for the core units in this qualification. Your consultant will help you map these current credentials against the qualification requirements.
