Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

When will RPL for the Diploma of Vocational Education and Training be available?
We are currently in the partnership phase for TAE50122. This involves identifying RTOs whose assessment standards align with our commitment to dignity and rigour. By registering your interest, you will be the first to know when the pathway is open for evidence submission.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering allows us to perform a preliminary review of your experience against the TAE50122 requirements. It ensures that when partnerships are finalised, you are well-positioned to begin the evidence-gathering process with a clear understanding of your suitability.
Is RPL the same as completing a training course?
No. RPL is an assessment-only pathway that recognises the skills you have already mastered through years of VET leadership. While a course teaches you new material, RPL focuses on helping you demonstrate that your existing experience meets the national standard.
What if I hold the older TAE50116 or TAE50216 qualifications?
The TAE50122 is the current successor to those qualifications. If you have significant recent experience in the VET sector since achieving those older credentials, you may be a strong candidate for RPL to update your formal recognition to the current standard.
Do I need to be currently working in an RTO to apply?
The entry requirements specify that you must demonstrate current VET skills and knowledge. While you don't necessarily need to be currently employed by an RTO, you must have access to evidence of recent vocational education and training practice.
What does registering my interest mean?
Registering your interest means you'd like to be notified when this qualification becomes available through RPL. There's no commitment — we'll contact you when an RTO partnership is confirmed for this qualification.
Why isn't this qualification available yet?
RPL It works with partner RTOs to deliver qualifications. We're currently exploring RTO partnerships for this qualification. Registering your interest helps us prioritise which qualifications to focus on next.
What happens after I register my interest?
You'll receive a confirmation, and we'll keep your details on file. When a partner RTO is confirmed for this qualification, we'll contact you with next steps — including how to start your free skills review.
Can I still do a free skills review for this qualification?
Yes. A free skills review helps you understand whether your experience aligns with the qualification requirements, regardless of whether an RTO partner is currently available. It's a useful first step while you wait.
