Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

When will RPL for this qualification be available?
We are currently in the process of identifying and vetting Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that meet our standards for the Diploma of Visual Merchandising. We prioritise quality partnerships to ensure your experience is assessed with the respect it deserves.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering your interest ensures you are the first to know when an RTO partner is ready to accept applications. It also allows us to provide you with preliminary guidance on the evidence you might need to gather for your portfolio.
Is RPL for this Diploma the same as studying it?
The outcome is identical. Whether you achieve the qualification through RPL or traditional study, you receive the same nationally recognised Diploma. The difference is that RPL acknowledges the expertise you have already acquired on the job.
Can I apply if I work as a freelance visual merchandiser?
Yes. Many visual merchandising specialists operate independently. Your evidence would typically include client contracts, project portfolios, and testimonials that demonstrate your ability to manage the end-to-end creative process.
What kind of visual evidence will I need?
As visual merchandising is a highly aesthetic field, high-quality photographs of your work are essential. This includes window displays, in-store styling, signage installations, and the creative sketches or drawings used to plan them.
Will I need to show how my work impacted sales?
One of the core units focuses on achieving visual merchandising targets. Evidence that demonstrates how your displays influenced store performance or met specific commercial briefs can be very persuasive to an assessor.
