What Is Recognition of Prior Learning?
Recognition of Prior Learning is a formal assessment process that evaluates skills, knowledge, and experience you have gained through your career against the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification.
You gather relevant workplace evidence and a qualified assessor from the delivering Registered Training Organisation evaluates that evidence. If the assessor determines every competency requirement is met, the RTO issues the qualification.

Not yet. We are currently in the process of establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that specialise in legal services. By registering your interest, you will be the first to know when we can facilitate your recognition process.
Why should I register my interest?
Registering ensures you receive priority updates as soon as an RTO partner is secured. It also helps us understand the demand for this qualification, allowing us to advocate for a smoother recognition process for experienced paralegals.
Is an RPL qualification the same as one from full-time study?
Yes. A qualification achieved through Recognition of Prior Learning is identical to one earned through traditional study. It is nationally recognised and meets the same Australian Qualifications Framework standards, as your experience is assessed against the same criteria.
What are the entry requirements for this Diploma?
Entry requires either the completion of specific legal support units from the Certificate IV level or at least two years of equivalent full-time relevant work experience in a legal environment.
Does this qualification allow me to give legal advice?
No. While this Diploma recognises your high-level technical and theoretical legal knowledge, it is designed for support roles. Paralegals must always work under the supervision of a qualified legal practitioner and are not licensed to provide independent legal advice.
How do I provide evidence without breaching client confidentiality?
Confidentiality is paramount in legal services. When compiling your portfolio, you will be guided on how to redact sensitive client information, such as names and specific identifiers, while still demonstrating your competency in file management and research.
