About This Qualification
This qualification applies to people working in the maritime industry seeking an Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) certification in the capacity of: Engineer Class 3 Near CoastalEngineer Watchkeeper (STCW Engineer Watchkeeper Unlimited)Electro-Technical Officer (STCW Electro-Technical Officer Unlimited). Please note: RTO to insert on the testamur the job role and specialisation, if applicable, selected from the group choice below.

What Is Recognition of Prior Learning?
Recognition of Prior Learning is a formal assessment process that evaluates skills, knowledge, and experience you have gained through your career against the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification.
You gather relevant workplace evidence and a qualified assessor from the delivering Registered Training Organisation evaluates that evidence. If the assessor determines every competency requirement is met, the RTO issues the qualification.

Does this Diploma automatically grant me an AMSA licence?
No. While the Diploma is a mandatory educational requirement, you must still meet AMSA's regulatory standards, including sea service logs, medical certificates, and their final assessment.
Is the RPL process as valid as completing the course?
Yes. Recognition of Prior Learning assesses your existing skills against the same national standards as the training pathway, resulting in the same nationally recognised qualification.
