About This Qualification
This is a qualification for a person who provides leadership and strategic direction in materiel logistics across acquisition and sustainment. Materiel logistics is the through life management of materiel to achieve the stated requirements of the capability manager. It is a multi-disciplinary approach to the planning and management of materiel's logistics elements. It combines the life cycle disciplines of Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) and through life support to provide a comprehensive approach to the development of sustainable and supportable mission systems and their support systems. Materiel logistics supports the mounting of military forces and their projection into, and sustainment within, the operational environment. Materiel logistics applies across all phases of the capability life-cycle – from the concept, needs and requirements phases, through to acquisition, in-service, and disposal phase. It incorporates such logistics disciplines as ILS, Systems Engineering (SE), and Supportability Analysis (SA). Successful achievement of this qualification requires the application of a significant range of fundamental principles and complex techniques across a wide and often unpredictable variety of contexts in relation to either varied or highly specific functions. Contribution to developing a broad plan, budget or strategy is involved and accountability and responsibility for self and others in achieving the outcomes of a logistics program is also involved. Significant judgement is required in planning, design, technical or leadership/guidance functions related to products, services, operations or procedures. This qualification has been designed for systems managers or those in executive logistics management roles who manage multiple systems or fleets. These people generally have relatively broad materiel logistics coverage and manage logistics programs, program offices or directorates. This qualification will suit people with a minimum of six years Capability, Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG)/Defence logistics experience. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.
