Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

Is RPL currently available for the Diploma of Ceramics?
We are currently in the process of establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that specialise in creative arts. While not immediately available for enrolment, we are actively working to build a pathway for this qualification.
Why should I register my interest?
Registering your interest helps us gauge industry demand and allows us to notify you the moment a suitable RTO partnership is finalised. It ensures you are first in line to begin the recognition process when it becomes available.
Is RPL the same as completing a ceramics course?
RPL is a different form of evidence. It assesses the skills you have already developed through years of studio practice against national standards. It honours your existing investment of time and expertise rather than requiring you to repeat the journey through traditional study.
Can I use my exhibition history as evidence?
Yes. Documented bodies of work, exhibition catalogues, and media reviews are excellent forms of evidence. They demonstrate your ability to conceptualise, realise, and present a professional body of creative work to the public.
What if I have gaps in my technical knowledge, such as kiln maintenance?
If an assessor identifies specific areas where your evidence doesn't fully meet the qualification requirements, targeted gap training can be provided. This builds on your existing foundation rather than starting from scratch.
