Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

What Kind of Experience Counts?

If RPL becomes available for this qualification, the types of experience and evidence that would typically be relevant include:

🛠️

Work History & Roles

  • A detailed CV outlining your experience in aircraft maintenance
  • Position descriptions from current or past aviation employers
  • Performance reviews or letters of reference from a LAME
📄

Operational Documentation

  • CASA Part 145 maintenance logs and completed job cards
  • Release to service documentation and certification records
  • Maintenance schedules and project planning documents
⚙️

Technical Expertise

  • Records of engine overhauls and component testing
  • Structural repair reports and airframe modification logs
  • Electrical troubleshooting records and test equipment results
⚖️

Regulatory Compliance

  • Records of training for CASR Part 147 requirements
  • Safety meeting minutes and WHS audit reports

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

Is the Diploma of Aeroskills (Mechanical) currently available through RPL?
We are currently in the process of establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that specialise in aeroskills. By registering your interest, you will be the first to know when a formal recognition pathway becomes available for this qualification.
Why should I register my interest for this qualification?
Registering allows us to keep you informed as we build our network of RTO partners. It ensures you receive updates on the availability of the RPL process and helps us understand the demand for recognition in the aviation sector.
Is RPL the same as studying for the Diploma?
No. RPL is an assessment process that recognises the skills and knowledge you have already acquired through your work in the hangar. Instead of attending classes to learn new material, you provide evidence of your existing competency to a qualified assessor.
Does this qualification guarantee me a CASA B1 Licence?
The Diploma provides the academic components required for the B1 Licence, but it is not the licence itself. You must still meet CASA's specific experience requirements and pass any required regulatory examinations to be granted a licence.
How do I demonstrate my hand skills for RPL?
Evidence for hand skills typically includes logbooks, supervisor reports, and photographs or videos of your work. The RTO's assessor may also require a practical demonstration or a technical interview to verify your expertise.
