What Is Recognition of Prior Learning?

Recognition of Prior Learning is a formal assessment process that evaluates skills, knowledge, and experience you have gained through your career against the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification.

You gather relevant workplace evidence and a qualified assessor from the delivering Registered Training Organisation evaluates that evidence. If the assessor determines every competency requirement is met, the RTO issues the qualification.

When will RPL for this qualification be available?+
We are currently in the process of vetting RTO partners who specialise in transport and logistics. By registering your interest, you will be the first to know when we have a partner ready to assess your driving experience.
Why should I register my interest now?+
Registering allows us to gauge demand and prioritise which qualifications we bring online first. It also ensures you receive early access to a free skills review once the pathway is open.
Is RPL the same as a driving test?+
No. Recognition of Prior Learning is an assessment of your total experience. While an assessor may request a practical demonstration, the process primarily focuses on the evidence of your past performance, safety record, and technical knowledge.
Can I use my work logbooks as evidence?+
Yes. Fatigue management logs and work diaries are excellent forms of evidence as they provide a verified record of your hours, routes, and compliance with transport regulations.
What if I drive a specific vehicle type, like a bitumen tanker?+
The qualification includes specialist elective groups. Your evidence should reflect the specific type of specialist driving you perform so the assessor can align it with the correct elective units.
Will this qualification help me get a Dangerous Goods licence?+
This qualification includes units that align with regulatory requirements, but the licence itself is issued by state authorities. The qualification serves as evidence of your underlying competency to support your licence application.
What does registering my interest mean?+
Registering your interest means you'd like to be notified when this qualification becomes available through RPL. There's no commitment. We'll contact you when an RTO partnership is confirmed for this qualification.
Why isn't this qualification available yet?+
RPL It works with partner RTOs to deliver qualifications. We're currently exploring RTO partnerships for this qualification. Registering your interest helps us prioritise which qualifications to focus on next.
What happens after I register my interest?+
You'll receive a confirmation, and we'll keep your details on file. When a partner RTO is confirmed for this qualification, we'll contact you with the next steps, including how to start your free skills review.
Can I still do a free skills review for this qualification?+
Yes. A free skills review helps you understand whether your experience aligns with the qualification requirements, regardless of whether an RTO partner is currently available. It's a useful first step while you wait.
