About This Qualification
This qualification reflects the role of individuals who apply a broad range of technical skills in photo imaging, including lighting, image capture, enhancements and manipulation and output. The outcomes of this qualification apply to a range of industry contexts including in retail, commercial, domestic portrait, media, wedding, illustrative, institutional and art photography work environments.
Important: RPL It Australia is a student support service. All assessment and qualification issuance is conducted by the delivering Registered Training Organisation. RPL It does not deliver training, conduct assessments, or issue qualifications.

What Is Recognition of Prior Learning?
Recognition of Prior Learning is a formal assessment process that evaluates skills, knowledge, and experience you have gained through your career against the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification.
You gather relevant workplace evidence and a qualified assessor from the delivering Registered Training Organisation evaluates that evidence. If the assessor determines every competency requirement is met, the RTO issues the qualification.

We are currently in the process of vetting Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) to ensure they meet our standards for professional recognition. By registering your interest, you will be the first to know when we launch this pathway.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering allows us to gauge industry demand and prioritise the onboarding of specific qualifications. It also ensures you receive early access to our skills review process once a suitable RTO partner is secured.
Is RPL the same as completing the photography course?
Yes. The qualification issued through Recognition of Prior Learning is the same nationally recognised Certificate IV in Photography and Digital Imaging as one earned through study; it simply uses your existing experience as the primary evidence of competency.
What kind of photos should I include in my portfolio?
A strong portfolio for RPL should demonstrate a range of skills, including different lighting techniques, image capture in response to specific briefs, and advanced digital enhancement or manipulation.
Will an assessor need to see me work?
The RTO's qualified assessor will review your evidence portfolio first. In some cases, they may request a technical interview or a practical demonstration to clarify how you apply specific techniques in a studio or on-location environment.
