Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

When will RPL for the Certificate IV in Music be available?
We are currently vetting Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) to ensure they have the specialist expertise required to assess music industry competencies fairly and rigorously.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering ensures you are notified the moment a partnership is finalised. It also helps us demonstrate to our RTO partners that there is a demand for experienced musicians to have their skills recognised.
Is RPL the same as completing the course through study?
Yes. The qualification issued is identical to one earned through traditional study. The difference is that RPL recognises your existing expertise rather than asking you to learn it again.
Can I use freelance work as evidence for this qualification?
Absolutely. Lived experience as a freelancer is highly valid. We can guide you on how to document this through contracts, invoices, and verified industry testimonials.
Will I need to perform for an assessor?
The RTO's assessor may request a practical demonstration or high-quality video footage of your work to verify specific technical or performance competencies required by the national standard.
