Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

Is this qualification currently available for RPL?
We are currently in the process of establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that offer the Certificate III in Music. By registering your interest, you will be the first to know when we have a confirmed pathway for your experience to be formally assessed.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering allows us to gauge demand and accelerate our partnership process with relevant RTOs. It also ensures you receive guidance on how to begin preparing your evidence portfolio so you are ready when the assessment pathway opens.
Is RPL for music the same as completing a course?
The outcome is identical. Whether you achieve the qualification through study or RPL, you receive the same nationally recognised Certificate III in Music. The difference is that RPL recognises the skills you have already developed on the job, rather than requiring you to learn them again.
How do I prove my skills if I am a self-taught musician?
Recognition focuses on your competency, not how you acquired it. Evidence can include recordings of your work, logs of your performances, and testimonials from venue managers, other musicians, or clients who have seen your skills in practice.
Does this qualification cover sound production skills?
Yes, it includes competencies relevant to sound assistants and road crew. If your experience is primarily technical, your evidence portfolio would focus on your ability to set up equipment, manage sound checks, and support the technical requirements of a production.
