Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

When will RPL for this qualification be available?
We are currently in the process of identifying and vetting RTO partners who meet our standards for this specific qualification. By registering your interest, you will be the first to know when the pathway is open.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering allows us to gauge market demand and prioritise the development of this pathway. It also ensures you receive early access to the skills review process once we launch.
Is RPL the same as completing a driving instructor course?
No. While a course teaches you new skills, RPL is an assessment process that recognises the skills you already possess. It requires the same standard of evidence but respects your prior experience.
Will this qualification automatically give me an instructor's permit?
No. The qualification is an educational requirement, but you must still apply to your state's transport authority and meet their specific character and medical checks to be licensed.
How do I prove my instructional skills without a classroom?
Evidence often includes in-car training logs, student testimonials, lesson plans you have developed, and potentially a practical demonstration observed by a qualified assessor.
What happens if my evidence doesn't cover every unit?
If the RTO assessor identifies gaps in your evidence, they will provide targeted gap training. This allows you to complete only the specific areas needed rather than repeating the entire qualification.
