Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

What Kind of Experience Counts?

If RPL becomes available for this qualification, the types of experience and evidence that would typically be relevant include:

  • Position descriptions from utilities or generation employers
  • Letters of service or employer references confirming mechanical roles
🔧

Mechanical Maintenance

  • Maintenance logs for mechanical drives and transmission assemblies
  • Alignment reports for precision engineering components
  • Records of plant equipment dismantling, repair, and assembly
⚙️

Machining & Precision

  • Evidence of lathe, milling, or grinding operations performed
  • Technical drawings and engineering computations interpreted
  • Precision mechanical measurement data sheets and logs
🛡️

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

When will RPL for this qualification be available?
We are currently in the process of vetting RTO partners to ensure they meet our standards for the ESI sector. By registering your interest, you will be the first to know when we open the pathway for this specific mechanical maintenance qualification.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering allows us to assess the demand for ESI Generation Maintenance recognition. It also ensures you receive priority notification once an RTO partnership is secured, allowing you to begin the evidence gathering process immediately.
Is RPL the same as completing a training course?
No. RPL is an assessment-only pathway that recognises the skills you have already developed on the job. Instead of attending classes to learn new things, you provide evidence to a qualified assessor to prove you already meet the national standard.
Will I need to demonstrate machining skills for this qualification?
Yes, as this is a mechanical stream, core units include machining, lathe operations, and milling. If your experience is primarily in maintenance and you lack these specific machining competencies, we will guide you on how to address those gaps.
What happens if I have experience but no formal paperwork?
Our role as your guide is to help you translate your daily work into formal evidence. We can assist you in identifying third-party reports, work logs, and photographic evidence that can demonstrate your competency to an assessor.
