Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

What Kind of Experience Counts?

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

When will RPL for this qualification be available?
This qualification is currently in our development pipeline. We are in the process of identifying and vetting Registered Training Organisation partners who maintain the high standards required for environmental technology assessment.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering ensures you are the first to be notified when the pathway is active. It also allows us to begin a preliminary discussion about your experience so you are well-prepared once the RTO begins accepting evidence portfolios.
Is RPL the same as completing a course?
Recognition of Prior Learning is a formal assessment process that validates the expertise you have already acquired on the job. It results in the same nationally recognised qualification as a traditional course, but it respects your prior investment of time in the industry.
What happens if I have gaps in my evidence?
If the RTO's assessor identifies specific competencies that aren't fully demonstrated by your portfolio, targeted gap training will be provided. This ensures you can meet the national standard without needing to repeat the areas where you are already proficient.
Do I need experience with GIS software?
Processing and presenting environmental data is a core component of this qualification. If you have used GIS or similar data mapping tools in your field work, this will form a valuable part of your evidence portfolio.
