About This Qualification

This qualification applies to managers, technical specialists or those in similar roles who develop and/or implement strategies to solve problems and improve processes in organisations implementing competitive systems and practices. This qualification complements but does not duplicate qualifications which cover the specific operational or technical skills required in an industry or job role. The qualification is an add-on, or overlay, for a person who has existing skills in their work for example in production, logistics, administration, healthcare, maintenance, financial services, warehousing, agribusinesses or other industries or job roles. Where the person does not hold those skills the appropriate qualifications from other Training Packages should be considered. The qualification is not suitable for direct entry from school. The qualification assumes that the person has current or past experience where operational or technical skills have already been gained and a managerial or technician level of responsibility exists. ‘Competitive Systems and Practices’ is not an approach or system in its own right. It is a broad collective term intended to encompass the flexible application of various tools, techniques, systems and approaches that have synergies around continuous improvement, efficiency, business improvement and similar goals. Examples include Lean, Agile, Kaizen and Six Sigma. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

What Kind of Experience Counts?

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

When will RPL for this qualification be available through RPL It Australia?
We are currently in the process of identifying and establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that specialise in this qualification. This ensures that when we do offer the service, you are guided toward an assessment process of the highest integrity and industry relevance.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering your interest allows us to gauge the demand for the Diploma of Competitive Systems and Practices. It also ensures you are the first to be notified as soon as a suitable RTO partner is secured and the recognition pathway becomes active.
Is RPL the same as completing a training course?
No. While a course teaches you new skills, RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) is an assessment of the skills you already possess. It treats your years of practical experience as evidence of your competency, allowing a qualified assessor to determine if you meet the national standard without requiring you to study what you already know.
Do I need to be working in manufacturing to apply for this RPL?
Not necessarily. While common in manufacturing, competitive systems and practices are equally applicable to healthcare, logistics, administration, and financial services. If you implement Lean, Agile, or similar continuous improvement methodologies in your role, your experience is valid regardless of the industry.
What happens if I have experience but no formal documentation?
Documentation is the bridge between experience and evidence. If you lack specific documents, we can guide you on alternative ways to demonstrate your competency, such as obtaining third-party testimonials from supervisors or providing photographic evidence of your implemented systems.
Will I need to do any extra study?
If the RTO's assessor identifies specific areas where your evidence does not fully meet the qualification requirements, gap training may be required. This is targeted learning designed to build on your existing foundation rather than starting from scratch.
