Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

When will RPL for the Cert IV in Design be available?
We are currently in the process of mapping this qualification with our Registered Training Organisation (RTO) partners to ensure a rigorous and supportive assessment process. By registering your interest, you will be the first to know when the pathway is open.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering ensures you are at the front of the queue once the assessment pathway is finalised. It also allows us to keep you informed about the specific evidence requirements you can start gathering to demonstrate your competency.
Is RPL the same as studying for a design qualification?
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a different form of evidence. While traditional study teaches you new skills, RPL recognises the skills you have already mastered through your professional work, assessing them against national standards.
How do I prove my design competency?
Evidence for design is often portfolio-based. You can demonstrate your expertise through sketches, finalised digital work, and documentation that shows how you interpreted and responded to specific client briefs.
What happens if my evidence doesn't cover everything?
If the RTO's assessor identifies areas where your evidence doesn't fully meet the qualification requirements, targeted gap training will be provided. This allows you to build on your existing foundation rather than starting from scratch.
