About This Qualification

This qualification reflects the role of individuals employed in the supervision and management of offenders and detainees. It allows for the attainment of general competencies, dog handling competencies or specialisations in supervision and leadership, case management, community or emergency response streams. The general qualification covers competencies that reflect advanced practice and greater team leadership roles of experienced individuals. The case management specialisation covers the competencies required by individuals responsible for case management of offenders in custodial or community settings. The community specialisation covers the competencies required by individuals responsible for supervising offenders directly or indirectly in the community and within specified parameters of responsibility defined by work activities, or by the complexity of assessment offenders’ needs and risks. The emergency response specialisation covers the competencies required by individuals responsible for responding to and supervising serious incidents or events that occur within custodial settings. The supervision specialisation covers the competencies required by individuals responsible for supervising staff and/or offenders in the correctional environment. The dog handling elective group covers competencies suitable for individuals responsible for the maintenance of canine health and welfare and the utilisation of canines for detection and security purposes. Statutory/legislative requirements apply to this qualification and may vary across states and territories. Users are required to check with the relevant jurisdiction for current requirements. Additional qualification advice Where a defined specialisation is completed as detailed below, the resultant testamur can be titled: Certificate IV in Correctional Practice (field of study) e.g. Certificate IV in Correctional Practice (Supervision).
